Begalan

One day when Andrian going to Jakarta he meet William. William come from Bandung. And then he ask Andrian about traditional ritual from Banyumas. It is Begalan.

William           : hy ? what’s your name ?
Andrian           : oh, my name is Izza. Who are you ?
William           : I am William. Where do you come from ?
Andrian           : I am from Purwokerto, Banyumas. Why ?
William           : Oh that’s great. I want to ask some questions about begalan. I’ve heard that  begalan is a traditional ritual from Banyumas. I have seen it on internet but i don’t get it. Can you explain me something about it?
Andrian           : okey William, Begalan is a traditional ritual from Banyumas which two people doing some robbery scene. But that’s not a real rob, they just saying some quiz and jokes.
William           : oh, that’s good. I just knew that Begal means robber and begalan are performed before a marriage ceremony. But i don’t know that’s was a robbery scene. By the way how is the robbery scene on begalan ???
Andrian           : one person from side of man going to bride of woman’s home. He bring kitchen tools, these are ilir ( fan of bamboo ), kukusan ( a place to cook rice ), centhong ( a tool to take rice ), siwur ( water dipper of coconut shell) , wangkring ( a tool to bring some commodity ). The people of Banyumas call them “Brenong Kepang”. At journey person from side of man meet a robber. Robber bring a wira sword. The Wira sword descibe a man who is rsponsible, the courage to face related to safety.
William           : ooh that’s right. I’ve read on the internet about philosophy of “Brenong Kepang”. Ilir describe people who have married must know about a good thing and a bad thing. Kukusan has a figurative meaning that people who have married must strive to meet the needs as much as possible. Next, centhong has meaning that people who have married must be able to correct theirself. And for the next tool I don’t know. Can you explain it?
Andrian           : oh right william. Your knowledge is true. Okey next philosophy is Siwur. The philosophy of Siwur is people who have married must keep their love to their couple or in java language is asih aja di awur – awur.  And then the philosophy of wangkring is we have to think when we’ll make a decision. At the end of the scene, the robber hit the Kendi ( pot for cooking rice ) by his Wira sword and then brenong kepang share to people.
William           : oh this is a unique tradition. Thank you Andrian ...
Andrian           : your welcome. I hope we will meet again.
